functional hotel with standard breakfast . Good location near old town. More suited to shortbreak than full holiday.

The Margherita Hotel is in an excellent location for the Old Town, Harbour, Walls and lovely shops and restaurants. Very clean and staff extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again. Alghero is a beautiful unspoiled city

We tour the City tour out to Caves, but spent most of our time in Alghero, enjoying the sights, drinking coffee and having nice lunch, before sun-bathing on terrace of Margherita Hotel

AVOID. BED BUGS. We stayed here for one night only. I woke up covered in bites, which became inflamed and itchy and lasted more than a week. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and pillows lumpy-like something from midevil times. Not worth the money at all.

A very well located hotel close to the old town. Best feature is the roof terrace for breakfast. Otherwise the hotel is very average and barely meets its 3-star rating.
Top Tip
There are many fine restaurants just across the road in the old town. You won't go hungry.

Hotel well located close to old city and all night time activity. Nevertheless no night noise apparent.
Breakfast on roof great location despite view being slightly spoilt be cranes.

Restaurants and drinks in area are generaly very expensive, particularly those on the ramparts. Expect to pay at least 4.50 euros for 40cl of draught beer and 6 euros on the ramparts.
Check out Casablanca and Al Vecchio Mulino for good food at reasonable prices. Both have an acceptable House wine at 8 and 6.50 euros repectively. In the rampart eateries house wine does not exist and bottles start at around 20 euros.

I read lots of negative comments prior to my departure. This was not the case for my family. Hotel in great location, room basic but clean with a fridge. Staff attentive and lovely to my little boy. He had a soft spot for the lady who looked after us at breakfast. Highly recommended

The 'Steak house' on the front was a good place to eat. They had 5 set menus all good value containing local dishes. Boat trip to the caves was worthwile and the beach was good especially if you have children and you can walk out for a distance and the water is still relatively shallow.

A bit tired in terms of decor etc. but very clean. Breakfast adequate and served on roof terrace with fantastic views of the old town and harbour.
There was a problem with the hot water on our last evening. When reported they managed to restore it within about an hour but it had broken again the next morning.
Just a stones throw from the old town, tourist office , harbour, supermarket etc.
Worth paying the extra 10 euros a night for a balcony and sea view. Not a huge amount to do here. All in all a good place for a long weekend but I wouldn't spend a week here.

The old town is lovely and very nice for sitting at a pavement cafe watching the world go by. The main attraction is the Neptune caves. We tried on a few days to get to them by boat but the sea was too rough for landing. Beware as the boat company will tell you the caves are shut when they are actually open via the 650 steps, just not by boat.
