I realy enjoyed my stay at the Margherita. The location could'ne be better. There is a great view of the sea from the roof top terrace and the old town, open markets and beaches are all a short stroll away. There is also a great supermarket directly opposite which comes in handy for cheap beer and snacks. The bus stop is also a short stroll away.
Top Tip
This Hotel is ideally situated for exploring the old town, the beaches and the markets. There's a good pub called 'Jamaica Inn' which is in the old town and 'Santa Cruz' which is along the seafront. These were my favourite pubs. The beer is 5 euros a pint (bit pricey unfortunately) In the old town there are some great pizza places were a freshly made pizza costs about 3-3.5 euros. The open top bus tour is a good idea, and is best picked up as early as possible, from the harbour (10 mins from Hotel). It's a hop on hop off bus which takes you all around the island, and costs 18 euros. The caves (Neptunes Grotto)are worth a visit (10 euros).
There's not a great deal to do in Sardinia, so it's best to lap up the sun and have a stroll along the beaches. The late night market is very relaxing and a great way to mingle with the locals and lap up the culture and atmosphere of Sardinia.

It was a really good hotel. The staff was really really friendly and smily EXCEPT the "breakfast-staff" who was really uncordial. The room was great. The hotel was situated just next to the old town (at 1 minute by foot), the harbour is as far as the old town.
Top Tip
The 1st beach (San Giovanni) is a really popular one but the best beach was Maria Pia. The best way to go there is to take the bus (~ 6 minutes)

Very nice hotel with English speaking staff.
Great view of the town from the breakfast area.
I would be very happy to return to this hotel. Located in the town of Alghero and so near shops, cafes, and a only a few minutes walk to the old port and harbour.
Near post office and banks.

Honestly, the hotel was a nightmare and ruined our vacation. We were greeted by a very rude and unfriendly English receptionist who was no help. My partner and I were riddled with bites from bed bugs on first night and the unclean toilet flush was broken. We had to refill the toilet bowl with water ourselves. There was grafitti on the bed and wall and the furniture was dirty. It took two days before our request of changing rooms was acknowledged. The breakfast was inedible, limited to stale bread, meat and cheap cereal. I have travelled the world and this hotel is the worst experience of a 3 star. I am furious that I have paid out nearly €600 for 5 nights in such a place. I feel cheated and mislead. Even the locals had negative reports on the hotel.
