BUT, we upgraded to a superior room after the first night as the standard room was pokey, had a very small bathroom, dark ,view of back street and bins and no TV. However superior room was lovely, but the breakfast provided gave us a very limited choice and wasn't very good. The staff were very friendly, helpful, the upgrade was no trouble for them and on this basis we would recommend the hotel.

Standard rooms are very basic with Airconditioning costing extra and if the windows are open at night mosquitoes run riot. Shower space very small but I guess at the right price the hotel is OK for a few days stay.

Top Tip

Best places to eat are in the old town and you can walk around the cobbled streets for hours. Nettuno Grotto is a must and the beach at the Lido is great. Watch the beer prices in bars, local ichnusa beer can cost 3.50 Euro for a small bottle, in the supermarkets you can buy 6 for 3.98 Euro.

Very good value for money Good location for access to both old town (20 mins. walk)& beach area (3 mins) Staff very helpful & friendly. Bus from airport (0.70 euros per trip) stops within 50 metres of hotel.

Standard room was pretty basic. Bus to the airport is only 100metre away from Gabbiano & cost is less than €1 each way.

Good value for money. Clean, great location. A bit basic, and the shower is not great, nor is the double bed (two singles pushed together), but overall we woudl recommend.

i would recommend a superior room as we had a standard room and did not have a balcony so we did not have anywhere to dry towels etc.

Top Tip

boat trip to see the caves very good. Train into Sassari was very punctual. restaurant next door called zebra excellent food and service.

If you are looking for a cheap and cheerful place to rest your head, this could well be it. The hotel is clean and friendly, but best of all located right across the road from Alghero's wonderful beach. The rooms are quite basic, but comfortable enough and my wife would be happy to go back to the hotel, which is quite a good recommendation. Supermarket just around the corner from hotel, which sells hot food (roast chicken, spicy potatoes, fresh bread etc.) so ideal for lunch time picnics on beach.

Top Tip

Plenty of good restaurants, but we liked Luci del Golfo just along the front from the Gabbiano. The Grotto of Neptune is well worth a visit, but I wouldn't recommend the boat journey in rough weather, if you have a "nervous" stomach, or if you have very young children in your party.
