Well travelled and stayed in
many, many good 3 star hotels. This was not one/1! Basic is an understatement. The shower
was a small shower tray with a dingy plastic curtain around it that covered 2 sides. Not suitable if you are over size 10 and everywhere gets soaked. Air con was 'extra' 10euro per night as it was 30c we had no choice. Notices/ rules about just about everything plastered all over. No facilities for changing/ showering on last day prior to departure. Even came into restroom downstairs to make sure we were not washing there! View of a building site next door, no chance to upgrade to seaview on site. Hotel was full
and if not dread to think how much that would cost.Breakfast ,bread rolls, crossiants and vending machine drinks. Stayed in better hostels.

Alghero is lovely. Prefer out of season though as it was VERY busy and is difficult to get a table anywhere at lunch and dinner. Not many places apart from the old city squares (that get busy) that you can go just for a drink. Boat trips, tours & sunbeds get booked up Quickly.

I intend to apply for a refund. The hotel was filthy, the room was as big as a cupboard, badly lit, no air con. There were some very unsavoury characters, including a young man on drink or drugs hanging around on the stairways. We walked straight out and found an hotel elsewhere, not easy at 10.30 at night! I wish to request a refund please

The main advantage of this hotel is its location. The beach is just across the road and it's a short walk (10 minutes) to the old town. However, the hotel is situated on a main road but personally we could not hear the traffic from our room. Unfortunately not all the rooms have balconies which meant our room looked out onto a building site. This of course is not the fault of the hotel but it was not enjoyable waking up to the sound of diggers every weekday morning. The rooms are extremely basic and are not modern. Our bathroom was very small and we had trouble showering in the tiny shower provided.
Standard rooms do not come with air conditioning but a fully functioning fan was provided. You can pay an extra 10 euros a day for the air con however we found that we did not need it and the fan was enough.
The breakfast and the staff were very pleasant.
Despite a slight disppointment with the room we were happy with our stay at this hotel. However, had we known we would not get a balcony we would have preferred to have stayed in self-catered accommadation.

BUT, we upgraded to a superior room after the first night as the standard room was pokey, had a very small bathroom, dark ,view of back street and bins and no TV. However superior room was lovely, but the breakfast provided gave us a very limited choice and wasn't very good. The staff were very friendly, helpful, the upgrade was no trouble for them and on this basis we would recommend the hotel.

Standard rooms are very basic with Airconditioning costing extra and if the windows are open at night mosquitoes run riot. Shower space very small but I guess at the right price the hotel is OK for a few days stay.

Best places to eat are in the old town and you can walk around the cobbled streets for hours. Nettuno Grotto is a must and the beach at the Lido is great. Watch the beer prices in bars, local ichnusa beer can cost 3.50 Euro for a small bottle, in the supermarkets you can buy 6 for 3.98 Euro.

Standard room was pretty basic. Bus to the airport is only 100metre away from Gabbiano & cost is less than €1 each way.

Good value for money. Clean, great location. A bit basic, and the shower is not great, nor is the double bed (two singles pushed together), but overall we woudl recommend.
